The Fashion Blog That Inspires Me Most + The Pant/Boot Combo You Need To Try This Fall

The Fashion Blog That Inspires Me Most

If you've spent any time shopping with me then you've probably heard me say "That's so Man Repeller!" as I point to some extravagant purse or unique outfit.  My love for the fashion blog, Man Repeller, started about three years ago, just before I started BTFL infact.  Man Repeller has multiple authors, but it was all started by Leandra Medine, the founder and CEO, whose style continues to inspire me everyday. Not only do I love the maximalist approach to fashion that Man Repeller takes, but I also appreciate the writers' openness and humor! I like to think of Man Repeller as that funny, trendy, grandma who always speaks the truth. The outfits they feature are always unique and push the boundaries of what's considered "normal." The outfit I'm feature today was actually inspired by the many Man Repeller ensembles that feature a striped pant! More on that below.

The Pant/Boot Combo You Need To Try This Fall

So I have to admit, I did think to myself "These are so Man Repeller" while picking out these striped Elastic Waist Straight Pants, online at Zaful. I decided to pair these yellow, ultra-high-waist pants with some unexpected items like a blue striped button down and a green handbag. But the most unexpected was the pairing of these pants with my new Diaz Studded Detail Chelsea Boot. In the past, I've only ever worn ankle boots with cropped/rolled up skinny jeans, so wearing ankle boots with long striaght pants that cover part of the boot was a new look for me (the inspiration for which came from an old Man Repeller post). It felt a little strange stepping outside of my comfort zone but I was pleasantly surprised by the result! It gave the ensemble a more sophisticated look, while also somehow making me look taller! Or is that just my imagination? Either way, the straight leg pant/ankle boot combo is definitely a trend that I suggest you try out this fall!

The Baby Steps of Wearing Statement Boots

The start of September kind of marks the start of Fall right? And one of my favorite parts of Fall is being able to bring out the boot collection. Recently, statement boots have become quite popular! I've seen many designers send their models strutting down the runway in maximalist boots -- from sparkles and glitter to floral and studded. I wasn't sure I'd be able to pull of such statement pieces myself though. So I started taking baby steps toward this trend with the help of The Larna boot in silver, by EGO. While the boot is a bright silver, has a pointed toe, and features a flared block heel, the design is actually fairly simple.. when compared to other boots like this ornamented Oscar de la Renta boot. When I received The Larna boot in the mail, I fell in love! But I was still unsure if I could rock all that silver. So I got out my oh-so-comfy Cape Town pant, by Cindy Karen. These long bell-bottoms did the trick -- they covered up just enough of the boot for me to feel comfortable and take that first baby step out into the world of statement boots. Because the shoes are so spectacular, I decided to keep the rest of the outfit simple, wearing this ROMWE 'Inspire Others' Top, from Amazon, my favorite black bag, The Berlin by Kado, and last but not least, the best cat-eye sunglasses I ever did see, a.k.a The Hitchhiker, by VYE Eyewear.

If at first you're not 100% comfortable taking on one of these maximalist trends, try starting small and working your way there. Maybe next time you'll see me wearing this boot with some cropped pants or a skirt instead.. Maybe!

Show Your Stripes

Today, I'm showing off my stripes with this Micro Stripe Sweater, from Shop Stevie! This adorable online boutique offers an array of trendy apparel including this new favorite sweater of mine. I stumbled upon this piece and immediately fell in love with the black, white, and chestnut color combo. To accentuate the white stripes, I layered the sweater with an oversized white button down. And to match the chestnut stripes, I'm sporting my favorite pair of Aldo boots. Meanwhile, the clutch reflects my recent obsession with the fur trend that's been going on. This little beauty is from an Etsy shop called 94Diamonds. While the shop is currently closed, it'll be up and running again come December 18th just in time for any last minute holiday purchases!

And in the spirit of the holiday season, enjoy 15% off your next Shop Stevie purchase with code: STYLE

The Winter Grunge Look

I love the grungy chic trend, but for a while I found myself struggling with the balance between the grunge and the chic. So I slapped together a few tips for how to successfully pull off this look. Here's what I've learned..

1. The Ultimate Beanie

The simple slouchy beanie is key to the winter grunge look. While there are tons of beanies to choose from, I went with one from the Etsy shop, Iveta Stasiulioniene, known for their quality handmade products. I have absolutely no complaints about this hat -- soft, durable, and no shedding. I couldn't ask for a more dependable winter staple that goes with quite literally everything. And for even more edge, I'm also sporting fingerless mittens, which came with the hat as a set!

2. The Flannel Belt

Fashionistas left and right are tying flannels around their waist like a belt for a casual, layered look that screams grunge. Believe it or not, I found this (men's) flannel for $4 at Forever 21 on Black Friday! Sadly, I couldn't find this exact one online, but here's a similar one!

3. The Right Boots

The trick to grungy chic is not going over board with the "grunge" part. That's why I like to pair my grungy ensembles with a pair of classic boots. The Daphne Bootie, by Rhea Footwear, is the epitome of "little black boot." On top of the sophisticated design, comfortable fit, and use of quality leather, this shoe also comes with non-slip technology, something Rhea Footwear is well known for. These bad boys will keep you looking stylish and slip-free during those icy winters! Here's a video for more info about their non-slip technology. If you're curious about fit, I can assure you that their boots are true to size. I'm almost always a US 7.5 in boots, which is the size I went with, and they fit like a glove.

Hope these little tid-bits helped. Grunge away, gorgeous!
