Casual Chic Pieces Under $50 - The Story of An Affordable Boutique

I love shopping small boutiques because you can find trendy apparel sold in smaller quantities, therefore making it more unique than the mass produced pieces at large corporate stores. What’s more is that the quality of these pieces are usually better too! Take for example this Harper Sweatshirt, sold by Trendy Moo. I fell in love with this piece from the start because of the sporty-chic, minimalist design. And when it arrived in the mail, I was even more impressed by the high quality of the material, especially considering it was priced at only $36. Although the Harper Sweatshirt I’m wearing is sold out, Trendy Moo has a bunch of other casual-chic tops to die for like the Berkley Top, the Reese Top, or the Abbie Top. As the title of this blog posts suggests, everything sold by this boutique is indeed under $50! Talk about affordable right? Aside from their cute apparel, Trendy Moo also offers a large selection of accessories, so if you’re searching for some stocking stuffer ideas I highly recommend checking out their collection of earrings and necklaces! Stay tuned for more gift ideas coming to BTFL soon.

How To Make Scrubs Stylish

For those of you who don't know, I'm a third year dental student at the University of Pennsylvania. As third and fourth years, Penn Dental students spend most of their days in clinic and rotations, wearing the assigned scrub color of their class. For me that means, royal blue all day every day for the next two years. As a lover of fashion, the idea of wearing the same uniform every day scared me at first. But I've come up with a few ways to make sure you don't loose sight of your inner fashionista just because you've got to wear scrubs everyday.

1. Invest In The Right Scrubs

Well fitting scrubs made with quality material can make all the difference! I've been through a few scrub brands already and Medelita is by far the most luxurious feeling! In today's post, I'm sporting their Horizon Scrub Top, which features a flattering neckline, a countered waist, and four pockets. And as you can see, Medelita can customize your top with your name and a logo! I've paired the top with their Delta Scrub Pants. These bottoms have all the pockets you'd ever need -- two in the front with zippers, and another four angled pockets on the sides (perfect for your cell phone)!

2. Fun Pins

In my opinion, the single most creative way to spice up your everyday scrub look is by wearing some fun pins! And lucky for us, Yummy Cactus has an amazing selection of quality pins. I would know, I've got six of them! These exciting accessories can be fastened to your scrub pockets or to your ID lanyard. I've got my pins from various collections including their Botanical, Cartoon, and the Anatomy pins collection. They make for a good talking piece with patients and they allow you to express yourself!

3. Sleek Watch

I'm a huge advocate for the Apple Watch, which I find especially helpful while in clinic. Investing in a few different bands to transform your watch into a sleek accessory is another good way to keep up with your inner fashionista. Casetify has a crazy amount of bands with different prints, colors, and styles to choose from. I'm confident that you'll find something that's right up your alley. I'm sporting the Simple White Saffiano Leather Band so that it can match my all-white kicks, which I talk more about below! Unfortunately, it seems to be out of stock at the moment, but this band is basically identical except it's even better because it features a positive message! I'll be sharing more of my Casetify watch bands in Instagram so stay tuned. If you're interested in purchasing your own use code BTFL15 for 15% off (valid through September 16th)!

4. Cool Kicks

If you're a scrub-wearer you probably already own your fair share of sneakers. I personally have about 10 pairs. This might seem excessive but in my opinion it's justified because not too much else can be switched up in my everyday clinic look, therefore I feel that my sneakers add some aspect of variety. One of my favorites is this chunky trainer by EGO Shoes. I love how the crisp white contrasts with the scrubs and how the thick sole gives me some added height. I've really been a fain of chunky sneakers lately and EGO definitely has a great selection! Switching up my sneakers everyday defintely gives me a little more control over my ability to style and bring my own personality to the scrub wardrobe.

I hope this post helps you in your journey to finding your own unique scrub look. Drop a comment below if you have anything to add!

Wearing White Jeans Before Memorial Day (Do What Makes You Happy)

Outfit #1 Details: Denim // Blouse // Heels // Sunglasses // Bag

Yes, I'm wearing white jeans BEFORE Memorial Day. May as well make "Rule-Breaker" or "Daredevil" my middle name right? But seriously, what's the big deal? I never understood the "no white before Memorial Day" rule anyway. You should wear whatever you want whenever you want, as long as it makes you happy! And last week, wearing my new Kate Spade Cutwork Denim jeans is what made me happy. After getting these bad boys as a gift, I played dress up for about an hour. I realized that even though they're jeans, these pants can easily be dressed up for a classy event -- take my outfit above for example. By pairing the jeans with a nice blouse, simple heels, and a clutch, I transformed what would otherwise be a casual pant into a classy ensemble. Whereas below, I've paired the pant with a cotton tank (which is actually a tied-up dress), flat sandals, and a bucket bag, going in a much more casual direction. But I digress, the moral of today's post is simple -- sometimes it's best not worry about society's fashion "rules" and instead just wear what will put a smile on your face!

P.S. Both of the tops in this blog post are under $15! The first top is a shockingly low $9. I can't tell you how many compliments I get each time I wear that piece. Not bad for $9 right? And the second top, which is $13, is actually a dress that I tied up to use as a tank top. So really it's a 2-for-1!

Spring Break Essentials

This is officially the last year I get a spring break (because my third and fourth year I won't have one)! So I'm celebrating by going to Puerto Rico with bae! For those of you who are also headed somewhere tropical for spring break (or in the near future), I'm including a few of my favorite things that I'll be taking with me!

1. The Shoes

I'm excited to finally be breaking out open-toe shoes. My current favorites are the Averie in Navy and the Atlantic in Black, both by Restricted Shoes. The bright color and checkered pattern of the Averie slip on adds pep to any outfit. Meanwhile, the Atlantic is versatile and elegant option. Together, the two could be paired with just about anything! What's more is that they are incredibly affordable, especially when you use code BESTTRENDSFORLIFE25 for an extra 25% off!

2. The Cover Up

If you're headed to the pool or beach, you're going to want a cute cover up to throw on top of your bathing suit right? May I just suggest this Summer Lights Dress, from Peridot Boutique, because its actually the perfect beach piece. It's also much more versatile then just a beach cover up. While it's meant to be a dress, by tightening the straps you can convert it into a long tank like I did in today's photos!

3. The Sunglasses

I'm a sucker for a beautiful pair of sunnies. And once I laid eyes on the Vega in Coconut by Covry, I was love stricken. Not only are these sunglasses made with accessional quality, but they're also comfortable and lightweight. Not to mention, I'm obsessed with the subtle marble and striking white design.  You'll be seeing more of these sunglasses on BTFL!

4. The Swimsuits

Probably the most important part of any beach trip is the bathing suits. The two swimsuits that I'll be rocking most often this trip are the Lana set and the Faith set, both by Wet Swimwear. I'm a sucker for a nice white bikini, so when I laid eyes on Lana I was sold. Meanwhile, the Faith satisfies my urge for a striking pattern! My favorite part about both is that the tops are extremely secure! And by that I mean, the twins are not going fall out while swimming. While I'm not wearing either of these swimsuits in today's post, I'll be sharing lots of photos on Instagram once I make it to sunny Puerto Rico.

The Official Color Of Fall 2017 + The Greatest Boot Sale Ever

The Official Color Of Fall 2017

So apparently the color red is kind of a big deal this season. Elle magazine says it's "officially the color of Fall 2017," which is proving quite true on both the runway and on the street. But these ensembles aren't featuring just a touch of red. NO NO! They are all-red! Take for example these 4 red ensembles featured on Man Repeller. Lovely right? And so I went on another mission, this time to style together an all red outfit. I have to say, it wasn't that easy, especially considering the fact that I had no red apparel in my closet. Seriously, the only thing I had was this maroon mock neck sweater (and red lipstick) that I'm sporting. So I took to zaful.com to find some more red apparel -- namely this red blazer and these red shorts! I found out the trick to putting together an all-red outfit is to work with different hues and throw in some non-red accessories to tone it down. I'm linking up some more red pieces below!

The Greatest Boot Sale Ever

Many of my shoes are from the online shop, EGO. It's one of my top favorite footwear brands because their designs are fashion-forward, comfortable, and insanely affordable. And in the spirit of Black Friday, EGO is offering 50% off all their boots with code COSY! Can you believe it? Looking for a suggestion on what to get? My number one pick would be the Maxi Over The Knee Boots in black, which is the boot that I'm wearing in today's post. These bad boys are the ultimate OTK boot -- they feature a pointed toe and moderate block heel, making for a sexy but comfortable design. And with the current sale that's going on these boots would only be $27.50!! Just as a heads up, if you're a half size like me (US 7.5) I'd round up to the next size (US 8). Happy shopping everyone! (Will be back soon with more black Friday sales to share with y'al!!)
