Sporty vs. Baby - If The Spice Girls Styled a Denim Skirt In 2018

Having some fun over here at BTFL (whilst on a break from studying for NBDE Part 1 Boards Examination) channeling my inner Spice Girls in order to bring you today's post. With some help from my friends over at Emmer and Oat and EGO Shoes, I was able to take one old denim skirt and style it two very different ways -- 1) the sporty look, as Sporty Spice would have it and 2) the girlie look, as Baby Spice would style it. Truth be told, growing up I was the biggest Spice Girls fan out there. I had the Spice Girls Barbie Dolls, I collected Spice Girl lollipop rappers, and of course I watched the Spice World movie upwards of 20 times. My two favorites were always Sporty and Baby so it should come as no surprise that I've identified with them while styling today's ensembles.

1) Sporty

One would think that styling a skirt (especially a denim one) in a "sporty" yet trendy manner would be somewhat impossible. Well now days, with all the sneaker trends going on, I found it quite simple using these chunky Kim sneakers from EGO, featured above. By the way these, on-trend kicks are only $28 right now! Obviously, Sporty Spice was almost always in athletic gear, but at the same time she liked to show off a little midriff using a cropped top or sports bra. I've mirrored a similar, albeit less sporty, look using this adorable Ruffle Crop Top, from Emmer and Oat. This scrunchy top trend is a huge throw back to the late 90's (A.K.A. the Spice Girl era) and I'm loving it!

2) Baby

Short skirts, platform shoes, pastel hues. Baby Spice was by far the girliest of all the Spice Girls! And if she were to style a skirt today, I could definitely see her using this top and these chunky sandals. This Rose and White Ruffle Top, also from Emmer and Oat, is such a sweet little number with lots of girlie detailing like it's pink hue and ruffle straps! And can't you just see Baby wearing these Rebel Chunky Sandal, from EGO?! Platform/chunky shoes have been a very popular lately and I'm more than okay with it. Maybe it's because they help add some height to my short stature?

If you're on the lookout for some unique and quality-made apparel, I highly suggest you check out the rest of the Emmer and Oat collection. And as for footwear, EGO, which is one of my go-to places to shop for shoes, is offering 50% off select styles right now!

Sale Alert: Sandals + Swimwear

If you're in the market for cute sandals and bright swimwear, you are in luck my friend! There are two sales going on right now that you need to know about.

1.  Restricted Shoes - 50% off Full-Priced Styles with code GOGO50

Some of my favorite summer sandals are from Restricted Shoes. In my closet you'll find the Atlantic in BlackAverie in Navy, and the Averie in Red. Each are regularly $50 at full price but from now until 6/15, you can snag them for only $25 by using code GOGO50! However, if you end up placing an order after 6/15, then feel free to use my discount code BESTTRENDSFORLIFE25 for 25% off (good till 7/15). Regarding size, I'm normally a size 7.5 in boots/sneakers and a size 7 in sandals -- I went with a size 7 in all my Restricted sandals and they are a perfect fit. Featured in today's post is the Averie in Red, which features a gingham print, a bright hue, and bowtie design. These slides are a stunning addition to a summer ensemble, and surprisingly comfortable. I just wore them today to walk about Philly and I have no complains.  You really cannot get much better for $25 am I right?

2. Zaful - Bikini Sets Under $17

Ordering swimwear online is risky, I know! But when a whole bikini set is under $17 it's hard to pass up. And that's exactly what happened when I was putting together that Zaful order from my Revamp Your Summer Wardrobe For Under $150 blog post. I couldn't help but to give it a try. Zaful is offering an insane amount of swimwear on sale ranging from $11 to $21, most of which clocks in at $17 or under! And then on top of these already low prices, Zaful always has discount codes to use at check out. For example, I found this code, ZF4THRMN18, for 18% off just by googling "Zaful Coupons". Today, I'm featuring two Zaful bikinis -- the Yellow Bowtie Ribbed Bikini and the Green Print Knotted High Cut Bikini, both of which I snagged for under $17 with the use of coupons. I'm still in shock over how nice they are for the price. The material is comfortable and is thick enough to prevent translucency when wet. Also, the tops both came with light padding that can be easily removed if desired. My favorite part however, is the knotted design that is featured in both bikini tops! This is a very popular style right now. What's more is that this style top is comfortable and secure enough to partake in athletic beach activites! Regarding size, I ordered a size small which fits me really well (both top and bottom). I could not be happier with these swimsuits and would definitely recommend you give them a try. Before placing your own order, be sure to read my tips and tricks for shopping at Zaful!

Spring Break Essentials

This is officially the last year I get a spring break (because my third and fourth year I won't have one)! So I'm celebrating by going to Puerto Rico with bae! For those of you who are also headed somewhere tropical for spring break (or in the near future), I'm including a few of my favorite things that I'll be taking with me!

1. The Shoes

I'm excited to finally be breaking out open-toe shoes. My current favorites are the Averie in Navy and the Atlantic in Black, both by Restricted Shoes. The bright color and checkered pattern of the Averie slip on adds pep to any outfit. Meanwhile, the Atlantic is versatile and elegant option. Together, the two could be paired with just about anything! What's more is that they are incredibly affordable, especially when you use code BESTTRENDSFORLIFE25 for an extra 25% off!

2. The Cover Up

If you're headed to the pool or beach, you're going to want a cute cover up to throw on top of your bathing suit right? May I just suggest this Summer Lights Dress, from Peridot Boutique, because its actually the perfect beach piece. It's also much more versatile then just a beach cover up. While it's meant to be a dress, by tightening the straps you can convert it into a long tank like I did in today's photos!

3. The Sunglasses

I'm a sucker for a beautiful pair of sunnies. And once I laid eyes on the Vega in Coconut by Covry, I was love stricken. Not only are these sunglasses made with accessional quality, but they're also comfortable and lightweight. Not to mention, I'm obsessed with the subtle marble and striking white design.  You'll be seeing more of these sunglasses on BTFL!

4. The Swimsuits

Probably the most important part of any beach trip is the bathing suits. The two swimsuits that I'll be rocking most often this trip are the Lana set and the Faith set, both by Wet Swimwear. I'm a sucker for a nice white bikini, so when I laid eyes on Lana I was sold. Meanwhile, the Faith satisfies my urge for a striking pattern! My favorite part about both is that the tops are extremely secure! And by that I mean, the twins are not going fall out while swimming. While I'm not wearing either of these swimsuits in today's post, I'll be sharing lots of photos on Instagram once I make it to sunny Puerto Rico.

White With A Sprinkle Of Pattern

After a long vacation and ample sunbathing, is when white becomes my favorite color to wear. As you may have already guessed, it's because the bright white contrasts nicely with newly tanned skin creating a striking appearance! But just white alone can be boring, so I'm here today to talk about two new additions to my wardrobe that are white with a sprinkle of pattern.

1. The Solana Romper

The Solana Romper, from Kittsona, features a beautiful floral embroidery, giving me that dash of print, without drawing out the white ensemble . Generally, you have to be careful when purchasing white apparel because sometimes the material is too thin and you end up seeing your underwear outline (even if it's nude colored). I'm happy to say there's no such problem with this romper! The material is a thick enough to prevent transparency, but thin enough to still serve as a summer piece. This little number is also quite versatile - wear it with sandals for a casual get-up or heels for a sophisticated look. It is hands down my most frequently worn romper this summer!

2. The Tamanco Branco

The Tamanco Branco, (which in portuguese means the white clog), by K.dan Flat Shoes a Brazilian footwear brand, is my favorite white sandal of the season. And not just because they're comfortable, and give me an extra 1.5 inches of height, but because of the gorgeous multi-colored rope sole that contrasts with the brilliant white strap. I understand that it might be scary purchasing from a foreign brand but I assure you that it's totally worth the bliss of owning a pair of K.dan shoes. Not only am I a lucky owner of the white clog, but I also have their Jean Mule. Both of which are comfortable, incredibly stylish, and made with quality. If you're unfamiliar with the conversion rate from R$ to USD, I've broken it down for you here. The Tamanco Branco is R$150 which in USD is just about $48, which in my opinion is a STEAL for such great quality shoes. As for sizing, I went with a Brazilian 36, which fit my US Size 7 foot quite well. If you have any other questions just contact me here, or comment below!

4th of July Attire for You and Your Dogs

With the Fourth of July coming around the bend, I thought I'd share some styling tips for both you and your bestest friend!

For Your Doggies

Besides just tying a handkerchief around their collars, I have my two boys dressed in what I like to call their "super hero" outfits. But these adorable leotards do more than just make them look cute. Let me ask you a question.. Do you wish that your dogs didn't shed all over your freshly pressed outfit or the outfits of guests at say, your 4th of July party? Well then these cute doggie leotards are for you! These Shed Defenders not only allow you to dress your best friend up for a special occasion, but they stop your dog from shedding all over your house, car, and clothing. And of course the added bonus is that the Shed Defender comes in many colors, like red and blue so that your dogs can look festive for the Fourth of July! If you're curious about sizing, my beautiful mixed pup, Miles, is sporting a blue size XL. Tucker, my 14-year old Weimaraner, is in a red size L. Although both dogs are about the same height and length, I did go with a smaller size for Tucker because he's so slender. And I can tell you that both of my best buds here had no trouble with me putting on the Shed Defender or wearing it throughout the day!

For Yourself

If you're wondering what to wear for the Fourth of July, I'd suggest going with a white and blue seersucker loose-fit dress. Seersucker because it's classic and versatile -- so you'll be able to use it for other occasions too. And "loose-fit" because if you're anything like me, then you'll want to have room for that hotdog/hamburger/chips/etc. food baby that often comes with BBQ festivities. My personal favorite, is the Make It Sweet Dress, from The Mint Julep Boutique.  I absolutely love that this dress features the long-standing seersucker trend with some new trends, like the exaggerated ruffle sleeves and a cold shoulder design! To add to the Fourth of July theme, I've paired the dress with some great accessories. I'm wearing a bandana around my neck to add some red to the ensemble, and the Wine’d Up embellished handbag, by Mary Frances, for  a star-inspired sparkle. Lastly, I'm wearing the unbelievably comfortable and slip-proof Eva Sandal in white, by Rhea Footwear. All of which come together for a Red, White, and Blue outfit!

I hope these tips will help you enjoy a dog-filled, dander-free, food-baby-hiding, and trendy Fourth of July!
